Fire Tribe Gathering

What Is the Fire Tribe Council?

The planning and logistical work required to organize our Summer and Winter Solstice Gatherings is done in service by an ever-changing group of volunteers known as the Fire Tribe Council. People who serve on Council:

  1. Contribute in both thought AND action towards the common vision, doing a share of the (sometimes dirty) work of financial planning, outreach, shopping, gathering supplies, village building, spaceholding, crisis intervention, and closing the Gatherings.
  2. Attend a majority of the Council meetings throughout the planning cycle. The group meets weekly during the two months leading up to a Gathering, and otherwise bi-monthly.
  3. Think pro-actively towards resolving operational issues, and further refining our logistics and process.
  4. Complete the tasks we volunteer to handle, and communicate asap if we are unable to follow through.
  5. Maintain open communication with each other, make decisions and resolve problems collaboratively, and trust the effectiveness of the group process.
  6. Participate in brainstorming and feedback via the Council eGroup.
  7. Behave in ways which are consistent with the values and intent our Fire community.
  8. Serve as ambassadors for the Gatherings, educating the public about the nature and purpose of our festivals.
  9. Pay the same festival, accommodation and meal fees as other participants.

Following each festival, surplus revenue is first used for planned expenditures such as the site deposit, replacing or buying new equipment, and other investments that will enhance the quality of the next Gathering. If any money is left over, a refund of festival, accommodation and/or meal expenses may be offered to Council members as a token of appreciation for their work over the 6 month festival cycle.

Refunds are based on the amount of time, energy and money contributed by each individual, both prior to and during the Gathering. As Fire Tribe Gatherings are not-for-profit and designed to keep participant costs as low as possible, there is no guarantee that there will ever be refunds. Historically, a percentage of Council members decline the refund, donating the money to future Gatherings.
